The road-rail excavator is an excavator used to work on or around railway tracks. It is used for levelling work from the railway tracks but also to lift heavy loads.
On tracks or on wheels, the road-rail excavators have direct hydrostatic front-wheel in order to work on one track of the railway. The excavator moves along the railway thanks to two railway axles, which are lifted when the excavator is on roads. Its speed on railway can reach between 20 and 30 km/h.
The road-rail excavator can be equipped with different accessories: pallet fork, bucket, clamshell or grapple to move the railway ties.
