Demolition excavatorThe demolition excavator is an excavator used for demolition work on mid-rise buildings. It is also called long reach or long reach excavator because it has a longer arm than other excavators, which allows it to reach its target more easily.
The long reach excavator acts either by pushing, by weighing down on the building to be demolished, or by pulling, by pulling on the building, or by impact, by hitting on the construction to shake its foundations. It can be equipped, as required, with a rock bucket, hydraulic breaker, bull blade, concrete hook, scrap grapple or concrete grapple.
Several options are generally offered on long-reach excavators: the fogger and dust collector, which improve visibility on the job site, and the noise damper, which is popular for operations in dense urban areas.
When the building to be demolished is too high for the demolition excavator, the clipping technique is used: several small devices are placed at the top of the building to demolish the upper floors.
