HM460-6, Komatsu’s new articulated dump truck
Komatsu is adding a new model to its range of articulated dump trucks. Named HM460-6, it has been developed based on the HM400-5 and features numerous innovations designed to maximize productivity and availability.
Performance and reduced fuel consumption
The HM460-6 articulated dump truck is equipped with the latest version of the manufacturer’s engine-transmission system. It is paired with intelligent systems that make driving easier and optimize power management. Operators benefit from hill start assist, cruise control (travel at the speed selected by the operator), a waiting brake (automatic machine holding to avoid overuse of the lever and parking brake), and a semi-automatic dumping system.
Compared with previous generations, Komatsu’s new articulated dump truck consumes less fuel while delivering higher performance. The improvement can reach up to 22%, representing a significant reduction in operating costs. This lower consumption also has a positive impact on the environment.
Anti-tip system and body monitoring
The HM460-6 also includes technologies that ensure the safety of everyone on site. The main risk remains tipping of the body, which generally occurs when a turn is taken too quickly. To prevent this, a system analyzes the terrain, continuously monitors speed, and issues alerts in case of danger. If there is no human reaction, it can decide to brake the vehicle.
Additional safety systems are also included, such as tilt monitoring and programmed limits for body lifting.
