GMK8700: the new all-terrain crane breaks records
Manitowoc is adding a new model to its Grove crane range. Named GMK8700, it is the most powerful in the series and offers new lifting alternatives.
8 axles for 700 tonnes
Mounted on an eight-axle carrier, the Grove GMK8700 has a capacity of 700 t. To meet all requirements, two boom options with interchangeable telescopic sections are available (54 m and 80 m). The crane also features several technological solutions, such as Grove CONNECT, which facilitates remote monitoring of the machine (alerts, error code management, software updates, etc.).
Despite its imposing dimensions, the GMK8700 remains easy to transport. To comply with regulations, its boom must be directed forward or mounted on a rear dolly. The new-generation carrier, equipped with five driven axles and numerous features (MEGATRAK suspension, removable rear outrigger box, electronic braking system, etc.), allows for two distinct configurations. The first optimizes road travel, while the second improves jobsite mobility.
High reach
Another advantage of this all-terrain crane is its lifting power combined with a long reach. It features a luffing jib up to 107 m, composed of a single rear mast and extensions. A counterweight of up to 175 t ensures overall stability. Built from the same interchangeable plates as those used on the GMK6400, GMK6400-1 and GMK6450-1 models, it is compatible with the Variable Position Counterweight (VPC), which allows adjustment of its position to maximize lifting performance — a first for Grove cranes.
