Caterpillar expands VisionLink to on-road vehicles with Geotab
Caterpillar announces a partnership with Geotab Inc. to expand the capabilities of its VisionLink platform to on-road vehicle management. The objective is to provide customers with a single interface to manage their entire fleet, whether off-road equipment or trucks.
A single platform for mixed fleets
The integration of Geotab’s functionalities into VisionLink will make it possible to display, within a single tool, data from on-road vehicles and off-road equipment. Caterpillar states that more than 1.6 million assets are already connected through VisionLink. For its part, Geotab reports nearly 5 million connected vehicles in 160 countries. This convergence aims to deliver a consolidated view of the fleet, including assets that are not Cat-branded. Customers will thus be able to monitor equipment condition, identify maintenance needs, and access the information required to manage availability, productivity, and regulatory compliance. According to Ogi Redzic, Chief Digital Officer at Cat Digital, this collaboration addresses customer demand for simplified management of all their assets on a single platform.
Integrated data, safety and compliance
Geotab brings to the VisionLink ecosystem its data analytics capabilities, its GO devices, as well as AI-enabled in-vehicle cameras. Data collected via MyGeotab can be integrated into the Caterpillar environment. The AI-equipped cameras will be offered by Cat dealers. These systems are expected to enhance driver monitoring, safety, and the automation of compliance reporting. For operators of mixed fleets, the challenge is to centralize information from on-road vehicles and off-road equipment in order to optimize operations and regulatory oversight across the entire fleet.
