New Volvo ECR255 short swing radius hydraulic excavator

Volvo CE expands its new-generation hydraulic excavator range with an additional short swing radius model: the ECR255.

New opportunities for operators

Weighing 25 tonnes, this hydraulic excavator delivers higher performance than the ECR235E it is set to replace. It features, for example, a greater lifting capacity (a 7% increase) while ensuring high torque even at low engine speeds. The ECR255 is also more fuel-efficient, with an estimated improvement of nearly 10% compared with the previous generation.

Enhancements have also been made to the electro-hydraulic control system. Combined with new features (automatic shutdown and idle, configurable work modes, etc.), they improve the machine’s behavior, making it more responsive and less energy-consuming than its predecessor. The inclusion of the Volvo Active Control solution automates boom and bucket movements, speeding up excavation and grading operations.

Simplified maintenance

The hydraulic excavator promises high availability. The duration and frequency of maintenance operations have been reduced (engine oil change after 1,000 hours and hydraulic oil change after 3,000 hours). Access points are now centralized to simplify the work of service personnel.

The ECR255 is already available to order in most international markets (North America, Europe, Oceania, Turkey, Japan and Korea). It will be presented to the general public for the first time at the CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026 exhibition next March.
