New production site for Liebherr hydraulic cylinders
Liebherr-Components Kirchdorf GmbH, responsible for components for the Liebherr Group, has undertaken major work to modernize its Oberopfingen (Germany) site dedicated to the production of hydraulic cylinders.
Consolidating production activities
The goal of this project was to bring all the subsidiary’s activities together in one place. Certain areas of expertise, such as mechanical machining, had until now been located at the historic site in Kirchdorf an der Iller (Germany), which has become too small. At the same time, the production lines dedicated to assembling hydraulic excavators have seen their capacities increase significantly.
Launched at the end of 2022, the project made it possible to expand the original surface area of the Oberopfingen factory by more than 46,000 square metres. This additional space is more than enough to accommodate three new halls and two buildings housing various administrative services. Investments also targeted production equipment. More than twenty new machines were purchased and installed in Oberopfingen to improve team efficiency and productivity.
Eco-responsible thinking
To power these additional spaces, a modern management system has been installed. Compliant with the DIN EN ISO 50001 standard, it controls a heat pump and the photovoltaic system mounted on the roof. Comprising 1,768 solar panels, the installation produces enough electricity to cover almost all of the company’s needs. To reduce losses, thermal insulation and a heat recovery system have been implemented. Efforts have also been made to reduce the amount of water used in production (recycling, treatment, limiting evaporation).
