Volvo CE to assemble its new crawler excavators in Eskilstuna
Volvo Construction Equipment is continuing its investments on the European continent. The company will soon launch the construction of a new facility dedicated to assembling crawler excavators in Sweden, in the municipality of Eskilstuna.
A major investment
For this project, Volvo CE plans to allocate 700 million SEK (Swedish kronor). This substantial sum will first be used to acquire the existing 30,000-square-metre site. It will also finance the construction of a new facility capable of producing both electric machines and combustion models at the same time. With weights ranging from 14 to 50 tonnes, they will all belong to the medium ranges. The choice of Eskilstuna is no coincidence. The municipality met the manufacturer’s requirements, as it was looking for a location with existing buildings offering expansion possibilities. The presence of nearby logistical advantages and other Volvo plants were also two significant assets.
Towards increased production
This new construction will significantly increase production capacity while reducing delivery times. It also contributes to the manufacturer’s environmental commitments by limiting imports. With this project, Volvo aims to strengthen its position in an increasingly competitive market. To date, major operations have not yet begun in Eskilstuna. All preliminary administrative procedures are still incomplete. Several legal authorisations, as well as environmental and building permits, are still missing. Once these are obtained, the first phase of the project can truly begin. It must be completed within two years at the latest.
