JCB launches the VM118D soil compactor
JCB continues to expand its compaction equipment range. The manufacturer is launching a new model called the VM118D. This 12-ton single-drum soil compactor is inspired by previous models such as the 116D and the VM117.
First 12-ton compactor without SCR
The new machine is powered by the JCB 430 diesel engine, compliant with Stage V regulations. In addition to offering strong performance (maximum power of 55 kW), it operates without any SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system — a world first for a compactor over 10 tonnes! This design simplifies use and maintenance while reducing costs.
The 430 engine offers four different operating modes. Depending on the task, the operator can choose between "work", "transport", and "slope" modes (to handle inclines of up to 55%). They can also activate the “padfoot drum” mode, which changes the vibration frequency (32 and 36 Hz), amplitude (0.8 and 1.8 mm), and centrifugal force (147 and 256 kN).
Safe compaction
The VM118D soil compactor features a state-of-the-art ROPS/FOPS cab. Comfortable (air conditioning, heating, etc.), it includes a 7-inch touchscreen that centralises all controls, accessible via an intuitive rotary dial and warning alerts. Outside, there are LED headlights and four roof-mounted beacons.
To meet all needs, JCB also offers several options, including a safety package (additional road lights, anti-theft system, reverse alarm, etc.) and the IntelliCompaction system (real-time compaction monitoring).
