A compact excavator completely electric by Volvo CE

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has recently showed their prototype (called EX2) of compact excavator completely electric. An innovative and ecologic concept : the EX2 excavator delivers zero emissions.

The advantages of an electric excavator

The use of electricity for this compact excavator prototype has lots of advantages. Indeed, the use of two lithium-ion batteries will reduce to zero the emissions of the EX2. Moreover, the noise levels will be 10 times less than a classic excavator.

This excavator still has all the performances of a classic one. It has a 8-hour autonomy even when used intensively for digging. It is also important to highlight that the EX2 has the capacity to be driven via smartphone or tablet, which can be very useful in work environments where there needs to be a high safety level.

All these basic characteristics render this 100% electric compact excavator prototype the perfect tool for urban zone work at night.

A prototype awarded at the Intermat Innovation Awards

The 2018 Intermat Innovation Awards have awarded, on January 18th, the companies with creativity and inventiveness in the construction industry. In the category "Equipments and machines/Earthmoving and demolition", Volvo CE won the award with their prototype.

For several years now, Volvo CE chose to develop solutions that respect the environment. The company invests a lot in research and development in this field.
