Track loader The track loader is heavier and therefore slower than the wheel loader. As a result, it is used for heavy work in mines and quarries, or on difficult terrain.
A crawler loader consists of a crawler tractor, cab, arm and hydraulically operated loader bucket. Scarifiers are sometimes fitted to the rear of the machine. The advent of the hydrostatic transmission around 1970 made these machines much more manoeuvrable.
One of the earliest models of crawler loaders developed by Caterpillar was called the Traxcavator.
