3 innovations for the new Michelin XDR3 dumper tire

In Septembre 2016, Michelin announced the launch of the XDR3 tires for the construction industry. These new tires have been designed for dumpers working in surface mines. The XDR3 tires display three key innovations.

1-      A revolutionary new tread pattern

The XDR3 tire is equipped with a brand new tread pattern that offers lots of advantages.  In comparison with the previous tires (XDR 2), the new Michelin tires offer a better endurance due to improved heat dissipation capabilities : 8°C cooler in the tread area. With these tires, a greater volume of tread rubber is in contact with the ground which improves wear.

2-      Different rubber compounds for all situations

In order to improve their dumper tires, Michelin developped a new mix that ensures a more uniform composition of rubber compounds. The four compounds (MB4, MB, MC4, MC) offer specific performance characteristics adapted to site conditions. With these comprounds, the Michelin XDR3 tires have a high wear resistance.

    3-      Corrosion isolating steel cables

Steel cables have been used in the tire coating of the XDR3 tires. They are now 10% stronger than the previous range of tires. To prevent the spread of within the casing, the steel cables are encapsulated in rubber which extends the life of the tire.

The latest Michelin dumper tires are compatible with the MEMS (Michelin Earthmover Management System). This system allows to quickly and easily install state-of-the-art data sensors. Data regarding temperature and pressure information are transmitted in real time.

In order to developp the XDR3 tires, Michelin spent more than six years developping and innovating. The tire brand explains that the model 40.00 R57 Michelin XDR3 is already available and that the tire 53/80 R 63 will be available in January 2017.
