Volvo CE Compact Assist App : How to calculate asphalt thickness in real-time

In April 2016 Volvo launched its brand new technology dedicated to asphalt pavers. From now on, the driver is able to calculate in real time the asphalt thickness spread on the road thanks to the Compact Assist App. This app is a real innovation in the construction field. Indeed it allows the driver to collect and access clear and complete information about his work. Two versions are available: Volvo Intelligent Compaction and Intelligent Compaction with Density Direct.

What allows this app? What does she really calculate?

The Compact Assist App works through a recessed screen and runs with the Volvo Co-Pilot system.

Adding a tool which can calculate the correct thickness to spread on the road will develop the paving industry. This technology allows you to see where the paver went, gives the temperature and records data. This app also offers a technology which can calculate the required thickness in real-time.

Be More Efficent Thanks to the Compact Assist App

Intelligent Compaction with Density Direct App can determine the proper thickness to reach thanks to its calibration display. Once you have inserted data into the app, you just have to wait that it calculates the required asphalt density for the whole coating.

This technology saves time and raw materials. It also allows the operator to reduce time spent to collect samples. It clearly helps to cut costs, to maximize the yield and offers a higher quality. Indeed, it is optimized because the system allows a better consistency compared to a nuclear density gauge. Moreover, the Volvo Co-pilot saves calibrations.

    Attention to detail for customer

All treated surfaces are indexed on a density map, in a specific color displayed on Volvo Co-Pilot. The map provides a number in real-time which is displayed on the screen corner, so it is easier for the operator to read it. This 10" display allows a direct access to the map, which schematizes the carried out work and gives a specific color to each thickness. So the operator can easily identify the interstices by maintaining a uniform coverage.

All the tasks executed by the paver are saved in the Volvo Co-Pilot 14 GB-hard drive, which corresponds to 7 months of data.

This technology is available on the latest models of Volvo CE compactors and in the future, the Compact Assist technology may be set up in former asphalt compactors models.
