Competition's tough in the excavator's world : in a few days, Hyundai, Volvo, Doosan, Case, Komatsu and Liebherr announced, one after the other, the launch of their new excavators at Internat, which takes place in Paris from 20 to 25 April 2015. Let's take a look at the new generation of machines meeting the Stage 4 antipollution norms.
The HX tracked excavator from Hyundai Heavy Industries Europe
Manufacturer HHIE will launch at Intermat the first 6 modelsof their new tracked excavators HX220L, HX260L, HX300L, HX330L, HX380L and HX520L, that weight between 22 and 52 tonnes. The first 5 models have a Cummins engine, and the HX520L has a Scania engine.
With the combination of the EGR technologies (exhaust gas recirculation) and SCR (selective catalytic reduction), these new machines have a reduced fuel consumption from 3 to 6 %. The design has been modified with ventilation holes on the sides so that the air goes to the engine. The air filters are more accessible and the rear lights are at a different place, to increase visibility.
It is easier to access the cab with the new ramp. The inside has been redesigned to gain 10% more space. The windshield has been enlarged for a better view. Finally, all the functions are now centered on a tactile 8' screen and an haptic button.
The EW wheeled excavators and the EC220E wheeled excavator from Volvo CE
With the new EW160E and EW180E wheeled excavators, Volvo Construction Equipment opts for versatility. Equipped with a 115 kW or 129 kW engine and a tool box with a capacity of 120 kg, these models offer several different configurations, with easy maintenance.
These models are authorised to be on roads up to 35 km/h, and can tow a trailer up to 8 tonnes in dry weather. Strong and easy to maintain, these new excavators have a boom suspension, an improved hydraulic and the Volvo Smart View systel with 3 cameras, for the operator to see what's going on around the machine.
Weighing 22 tonnes and equipped with a 128 kW engine that automatically stops, the new EC220E wheeled excavator is versatile, with lots of equipments that can be added on auxiliary hydraulic systems. The maintenance is easier thanks to a side door accessible from the floor.
The DX tracked and wheeled excavators by Doosan CE
Doosan Construction Equipment will launch its new wheeled excavators, the DX170W-5 and DX210W-5, machines from 17 and 21 tonnes. With engines of 113 kW and 141 kW, they offer 10 and 17 % more power than the previous models, while using 10% les fuel. Cab wise, the new suspension system, 'CabSus' reduces vibrations and noises, while the side view has been increased and the dashboard combines the optional parameters and cameras display.
The Korean manufacturer will also showcase its new models of tracked excavators : DX235LCR-5, DX235NLC-5, DX300LC-5, DX420LC-5, DX490LC-5 and DX530LC-5. Weighing from 24 to 51 tonnes, these machines have increased performances and lower fuel consumption, with the automatic slow down, the electronic cooling control, the TPM screen that watches the consumption and the SPC system that manage the hydraulic needs.
A new engine that combines the EGR and SCR technologies avoids the need of a particule filter. These new excavators are equipped with the new Core TMS fleet management, that obtain the machine's information via satellite or mobile network.
The CX wheeled excavator by Case CE
Case Construction Equipment will launch 4 new tracked excavators from the D range at Intermat. Weighing between 25 and 40 tonnes, these new models CX250D, CX300D, CX350D and CX370D are equipped with engines more powerful than their competitor and they don't need particle filters. The Adblue tank is larger, one fill every 5 fuel filling, these new models have more autonomy and an increased productivity.
These excavators are equipped with the Case's intelligent hydraulic system that improves the machine's reactivity with new hydraulic pumps. A system that improves the hoisting with cyles that can be up to 12% faster than the series C, and a breakout force 6% more important.
The PC tracked excavators by Komatsu
The Japanese manufacturer will display its new models of "smart" tracked excavators from the 11 series. Professionals will be able to see the PC210LCi-10 weighing 21 tonnes, that has an integrated guidance system.
In the same range, the manufacturer will showcase the PC240LC-11, equipped with a Komatsu engine. With an improved energy efficency by 6 % and an optimised cab, this new excavator should increase productivity and reduce the operating costs at the same time. Finally, the manufacturer will show its third generation hybrid excavator and midi excavator PC88MR-10.
The R tracked excavators from Liebherr
The German manufacturer will unveil its R946 tracked excavator at Intermat, with a 200 kW engine equipped with the SCR technology. This new model has the Positive Control system, that optimises the engine and the hydraulic system with sensors that are strategically located. The circuits are separated or combined according to the needs of energy. The operator can easily control the engine oil and uea solution level via touch screen. A central lubrification is on every machine. The cab is equipped with automatic AC and a 7'' touch screen.
For work on construction site, Liebherr developed a production excavator based on the same model : the R950 SME (Super Mass Excavation).
