Merlo has partnered with Turin Polytechnic’s mechanical department to produce the P41.7 Panoramic hybrid telehandler.
With two design patents pending, the Merlo hybrid system combines a 55 kW Kubota diesel engine and a 50kW brushless, permanent magnet electric motor. In the "diesel always on" mode, the transmission is fed by the diesel engine and the electric drive. In "hybrid" mode, the diesel engine is available on demand, either as direct power or to charge the battery.
Lastly, in "full electric" mode, the electric motor provides drive and the diesel is turned off, making this suitable for indoor or night-time operations.
The 4,100kg (9,039lb) capacity telehandler lifts up to 7 metres (23 feet).
