Doosan Infracore Construction Equipment is partnering with Italian telehandler manufacturer Dieci srl to supply four Dieci high-capacity telehandlers rebadged as Doosan.

The telehandlers, with maximum lift heights of 10 metres (32.8 feet) and lifting capacities from seven to 21 tonnes, are larger than any of the Bobcat telehandlers produced in Europe. Doosan acquired Bobcat for USD4.9 billion in 2007.

Jae Jong Hin, vice president of heavy product management and parts in Doosan Europe, told IRN that the agreement enabled Doosan to quickly enter a niche market without investing in R&D. He expects sales of about 40 units a year for the telehandlers.

Doosan says its marketing strategy is to reserve the Bobcat brand for compact equipment and Doosan for heavy machines. That is why it decided to brand the telehandlers as Doosan, not Bobcat which is already well-known for telehandlers.

The new telehandlers can be combined with attachments that enable operators to use one machine for carrying out different jobs. The smallest model in the range is the DT70 telehandler, which has a maximum lift capacity of 7 tonnes, a maximum lift height of 9.65 metres (31.7 feet) and a maximum forward reach of 5.4 metres (17.7 feet). The DT70 is driven by the Iveco NEF-TA diesel engine.

The next model up, the DT120 has a maximum lift capacity of 12 tonnes, a maximum lift height of 9.4 metres (30.8 feet) and a maximum forward reach of 4.9 metres (16 feet). It is powered by the 106kW Perkins 1104D-ETA diesel engine.

The DT160 and the DT210 both have a maximum lift height of 10.2 metres (33.5 feet) and maximum forward reach of 5.15 metres (16.9 feet), with maximum lift capacities of 16 and 21 tonnes, respectively. Both are driven by the Perkins 1106D-ETA diesel engine.

Doosan will initially sell the telehandlers in Europe and the Middle East...
