Volvo remains the supplier of choice at Commercial Recycling Limited

Established
in 2000, Commercial Recycling has been associated with Volvo products from the
start when it inherited a second hand Volvo L150F. The company moved to its
current location at Canford in 2004 and has evolved into a comprehensive
recycling and processing operation, licensed to handle 175000 tonnes of commercial
and industrial waste per annum. And
Volvo loading shovels and excavators have and continue to be a part of this
process – the company operating six shovels, ten excavators and an articulated
hauler. “Since the outset we have had good experiences operating the Volvo
product from a machine reliability standpoint but also we get first class
support and back up when its needed and good residual values when its time to
change,” says managing director Ian Mariner. “Yes we’ve tried alternative
makes, but the bottom line is that Volvo comes out on top as the best ‘all
rounder’ and has become the supplier of choice for our equipment needs.”
Testament
to high machine availability and performance is the original L150F which was
finally retired in 2008 with over 30000 machine hours and still with its
original engine and transmission. “The machines work long hours on double
shifts so high availability is essential,” continues Mr Mariner. The new L60F
for example has just replaced a four year old L60E which clocked over 14000
hours working in a dusty and aggressive environment in the transfer shed at
Canford without any major issues. The size of the 11.8 tonne L60F shovel is
ideal for the compact and restricted work area. It has been equipped with L5
tyres, reversible fan, autolube and a dustbuster mounted on the engine air
intake to combat the harshness of the application. A hydraulic attachment
bracket is fitted as standard and with its 1.8m³ rehandling bucket the machine
is in charge of pushing and heaping material for the excavators to load out
high sided bulkers.
The new
shovel has been joined by two Volvo EC210C excavators, both equipped with
hydraulically elevating cabs developed by Volvo, giving a maximum height to the
roof of the cab of 5.47metres. One of the machines has been equipped on
standard backacter with a selector grab whilst the other machine has been
supplied with a bespoke grab arm and five tine cactus grab, both combinations
ensuring all the handling applications can be best served across the site.
Specifying the high rise cab option was essential for the safe loading
operation of high sided bulkers both inside the transfer shed and working the
various stockpiles comprising of waste wood, general C& I waste, plastics,
plasterboard, soils and aggregates.
At the
heart of the EC210C a 6 litre Tier III engine developing 150 nett hp operates
in conjunction with an advanced mode control system ensuring the maximum
possible hydraulic horsepower available is delivered at a constant engine speed
under varying load conditions. Both machines have been equally equipped with
additional features pertinent to the application and include screen guards,
extra mesh protection for the engine, dustbuster air intake filtration and
reversible fans.
Both the
excavator and haulers will be serviced and maintained by Volvo service
engineers, with Volvo’s blue customer service agreements offering the care and
peace of mind Commercial Recycling are looking for. The recent package has also
been supported by VFS (Volvo Financial Services).
Since 2000,
Commercial Recycling Ltd has grown into one of the south’s leading waste
management providers assisting over 3000 businesses to recycle throughout
Dorset Hampshire and Somerset. Besides the Canford facility the company has
sites located at Poole, Bristol and Shepton Mallet. The company employs a
complement of 120 personnel and operates a fleet of lorries ranging from skip
wagons, rollonoff’s, RCV’s, tippers and walking floor articulated bulkers. Up
to 84% of all inbound waste is successfully recycled thanks to the company’s
bespoke handling and sorting systems on site.
Volvo
Construction Equipment Division markets wheeled loaders, articulated haulers,
hydraulic excavators, graders, Volvo Compact Equipment and Volvo road machinery
products in the U.K. There are eight strategically placed customer support
centres and a network of compact equipment dealers to ensure high quality
customer support is maintained throughout the country.
